Blair Athol is a Scottish distillery located in the Highlands, in Pitlochry, founded in 1798 by John Stewart and Robert Robertson, making it one of Scotland's oldest legal distilleries. Initially named Aldour, it was renamed Blair Athol in 1825, likely inspired by the nearby castle and Duke of Atholl. Closed from 1932 to 1949, it was reopened by Arthur Bell & Sons, becoming a crucial part of Bell's Blended Whisky. Known for its heavier, nutty, and malty character, it typically matures in ex-bourbon casks, though ex-sherry cask releases showcase its complexity. Today, Blair Athol is owned by Diageo, with its single malt appearing mainly in the Flora & Fauna series and limited editions.
Blair Athol Aged 12 Years Flora & Fauna is a single malt whisky that is part of the iconic Flora & Fauna range created by Diageo in the 1990s. This range was designed as a tribute to the lesser-known Scottish distilleries, whose production is mostly used for blended whiskies, rather than official single malt bottlings. The bottle labels are decorated with motifs of local fauna and flora, reflecting the environment and landscape around the distilleries.
