Allt-A-Bhainne is a Scottish distillery, founded in 1975 in the Moray region of Speyside by Seagram during a time of whisky industry growth. Built primarily to support Chivas Regal blends, the distillery has four stills and produces whisky with fruity, floral notes and subtle spice. Known for its modernist architecture, which contrasts with the traditional distilleries of Speyside, it was temporarily closed between 2003 and 2005. Today, it operates under Chivas Brothers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard. In 2018, the distillery launched its first official single malt.
Allt-a-Bhainne 1991 is a single malt whisky released by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail as part of the Connoisseurs Choice range. The whisky was distilled in April 1991 and bottled in June 2007 after 16 years of aging in refill bourbon casks, which allowed for a subtler wood influence, making the whisky more reflective of the character of the distillery itself.
Nose: Fresh and light, with notes of grass, vanilla, and a light hint of smoke, complemented by citrus freshness and subtle spice.
Taste: Creamy, with notes of vanilla and citrus fruits, followed by nutty and spicy elements.
Finish: Medium long, caramel with lingering marine notes and salt.
This is a whisky with a clean and fresh character, ideal for lovers of lighter and more accessible whiskies, for example, as an aperitif.
