Glen Grant is a Scottish distillery in the Speyside region, founded in 1839 by brothers John and James Grant. The distillery was significant not only because of its size, but also because of the strategic railway from Lossiemouth to Rothes, which the brothers financed to facilitate exports. John Grant, known as The Major, introduced innovations such as the first electric lighting and special cleaning pipes in the stills that give whiskey its light, fresh character.
Glen Grant was one of the first single malt whiskey brands to be possible to find in countries such as the USA, Africa and Australia already at the end of the 19th century. In 2006 the distillery was bought by the Italian group Gruppo Campari.
Glen Grant Distillery was managed by one of the iconic figures of the whiskey industry, Dennis Malcolm, who has been with the distillery for over 60 years and is one of the most respected master distillers in the industry. It was replaced by Greig Stables in July 2024.
The house-bottled whiskey is now mainly aged in ex-bourbon casks, while the older and limited editions bottled by Gordon & MacPhail are aged in ex-sherry casks and are highly sought after by whiskey connoisseurs and collectors .
Glen Grant 1959 is a single malt whisky, bottled by the independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail as part of the Licensed Bottling series. This series is notable in that Gordon & MacPhail bottles whiskies with official permission from the distilleries, meaning these whiskies authentically represent the style and character of the distillery. The whisky was distilled in 1959 and bottled in 2006, giving it an impressive 46 years of aging.
Nose: Rich and sophisticated, with notes of dried fruit, vanilla, and a subtle touch of old wood that adds depth.
