Glenlivet is an iconic Scottish distillery located in the Speyside region, with a history dating back to 1824 when it was founded by George Smith. It was one of the first distilleries to obtain a legal license following the passage of the Excise Act of 1823, allowing it to produce whiskey legally. This move to legalize whiskey production was met with resistance from local illegal producers at the time, but Glenlivet quickly became a model for other distilleries. It is known for its delicate spirit, which is characterized by notes of apples and malt.

Thanks to its quality, Glenlivet soon became one of the most popular whiskies, not only in Scotland, but also on the international scene. Already in the 1830s, it was popular in London, especially among the upper classes of society. The Glenlivet name gained such prestige that other Speyside distilleries began to use its name. This dispute led to a legal battle which George Smith won, resulting in only Glenlivet being allowed to use the name "The Glenlivet".

In 1978 the distillery was incorporated into Seagram. When Pernod Ricard bought Seagram's whiskey portfolio in 2001, Glenlivet became the global group's key brand. Under the management of Pernod Ricard, Glenlivet has grown to become one of the best-selling single malt whiskeys in the world.

Today, Glenlivet offers a wide range of bottlings, including the famous 12-year-old, 15-year-old, 18-year-old, 21-year-old and 25-year-old whiskies. It also features limited editions and vintage bottlings that are sought after by whiskey enthusiasts around the world.
