Rosebank is a famous Scottish distillery located in the Lowlands, specifically in the town of Falkirk. Founded in 1840 by James Rankin, it quickly became famous for its light and floral style, typical of Lowlands whisky. Rosebank was one of the few distilleries to maintain a three-pot still (such as Auchentoshan), which contributed to the fine and complex character of its distillate.
The distillery closed in 1993, partly due to the difficult economic situation in the whiskey industry and modernization issues.
In 2017, Ian Macleod Distillers announced plans to reopen the Rosebank Distillery. The reconstruction took place with the aim of preserving the original three-pot distillation and the authentic production processes that were typical of this distillery. The distillery reopened in 2023, marking the return of one of the most iconic Lowland whiskeys to the market.
Due to its unique history and limited supply, Rosebank has become a sought-after and highly collectible whisky.
Rosebank 1990 is a single malt whisky, distilled in February 1990 and bottled in September 2008 by independent bottler Ian Macleod as part of the Chieftain's Choice series. This range emphasizes authenticity in each bottling, with no chill filtration or added coloring, preserving the whisky's natural character. This expression was matured for 18 years in a #614 sherry butt cask.
Nose: Rich and subtly sweet, with notes of dried fruit, warm spices, and a hint of floral accents.
Taste: Harmonious, featuring ripe fruit, sweet sherry, and subtle spice, striking a balance between sweetness and oak character.
Finish: Medium-long, with lingering notes of dried fruit and woody accents.
The auctioned bottle is one of only 300 bottles and is presented in a luxurious wooden box. Notably, this bottling was exclusive to the Czech distributor Fous Spirits.
