A Schiavona type sword, made in the 20th century as a reconstruction of a historical weapon. Schiavone was the typical sword of the bodyguard of the Venetian doges, recruited from the region of Dalmatia (the term "schiavone" refers to Slovenes). The characteristic basket guard is made of interlaced steel strips, providing hand protection. The handle is wrapped with wire for a better grip. The blade dates from the 19th century and is probably a Tuareg type blade of African origin. No sheath. The overall condition corresponds to the age and the materials used
