It is known that Feuerbach created two versions of this painting, one in 1869 and another between 1871 and 1874. The painting depicts a moment from Plato's Symposium, in which Alcibiades and his companions disrupt the intellectual gathering.
Prominent characters include a drunk Alcibiades, the host Agathon, and the philosopher Socrates, who is deep in thought.
The scene takes place in a richly decorated dining room, with elements such as smoking torches and oil lamps illuminating the space. Oil on canvas 80 x 146 cm
