Edradour is a small Scottish distillery in the Highlands, near Pitlochry, established in 1837. Its founder, Duncan Forbes, had been distilling legally since 1825, capitalizing on the area's history of illicit whiskey production. Acquired by Signatory Vintage in 2002, Edradour is known for its traditional methods, including open mash tuns and wooden washbacks, which contribute to its robust, fruity character. Most of its whiskey matures in ex-sherry casks, while its heavily peated Ballechin range uses American bourbon casks.
Edradour 1997 is a single malt whisky, bottled directly by the distillery as part of the Straight From The Cask series, which is known for being without chill filtration or coloring. The whisky was distilled on November 19, 1997, and bottled on October 21, 2008, after 10 years of aging. It was first aged in hogshead casks and then finished in Port Pipe casks after port wine.
Nose: Rich and fruity with distinct notes of dried fruit, grapes, and sweet spices from the port cask.
Taste: Full and intense with notes of forest fruit, vanilla, and spices. The port adds a subtle sweetness and fruity character.
Finish: Long and warm, with lingering fruity and spicy notes.
The auctioned bottle is one of 927 bottles and comes in a stylish wooden box.
