Tormore is a Scottish distillery located in the Speyside region that was established in 1958 and its architectural design is considered one of the most impressive of the distilleries. The distillery buildings were designed by renowned architect Sir Albert Richardson, and their elegant style with copper roofs and clock tower make it a distinctive feature of Speyside.
Tormore was originally built by Long John International, who used it to produce whiskey mainly for into blends. Although much of the production still goes into blended whiskeys such as Long John or Ballantine's, the distillery has started promoting its single malt whiskey more in recent years. Tormore whiskey is known for its smoothness, freshness and fruity character with light notes of herbs and spices.
In 2022 Tormore Distillery was purchased by Elixir Distillers, owned by brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh, founders of The Whiskey Exchange fame . The move signals Elixir Distillers' ambition to raise brand awareness and expand its prestige in the global market.
Tormore 1990 is a single malt whisky distilled in October 1990 and bottled in October 2003 by independent bottler Ian Macleod as part of the prestigious Chieftain's range. This series emphasizes the authenticity of each bottling, with no chill filtration or added coloring, preserving the whisky's natural character. The whisky matured for 13 years in casks #90391-90392, benefiting from a Port Finish.
Nose: Rich, with notes of red fruit, vanilla, and a hint of oak spice, complemented by a subtle sweetness from the port influence.
Taste: Full and complex, with flavors of berry fruit, red apples, caramel, and delicate spices, along with nutty notes and a light wood hint.
Finish: Long and balanced, with lingering fruit and oak spice that lead to a sweet and satisfying conclusion.
