The Tatra 603 was a passenger car produced by the Tatra company between 1955 and 1975. It was the successor to the Tatra 600 ‚Tatraplan‘ series and was the last model with a streamlined body. In 1955, the first prototype, with a slightly different shape, was built, followed in the next years by a verification series of 10 pieces and then small series production. The Tatra 603 bodywork is the result of artist František Kardaus. The car got its name from the T603 V8 engine, which is an eight-cylinder air-cooled engine with a capacity of 2.5 litres, engine is located behind the rear axle. It transmits the power to the rear axle via a four-speed gearbox. The top speed of the T603 was stated to be 160 km/h, but in reality, the cars were faster, thanks to their aerodynamic shape.
The 603 models were primarily intended as representative service vehicles for the needs of government, ministries and companies, as is the case with the offered car, which still bears diplomatic license plates. The car also comes with a historical folder with invoices and the original invalid title. The car was sold new in 1967 to Public Transport Services in Prague, then it changed owners three times, each time in the Central Bohemian Region and Prague, before it was bought by a Frenchman living in Prague, who then took the car to France. The title also records that the engine was changed twice, in 1973 and 1985. Engine from 1985 is in the car until today and it’s in working order. The car returned from France to the Czech Republic in 2021.
