TIP OF THE CURATOR: An exceptionally attractive Art Nouveau study by Alphonse Mucha with documented provenance and a handwritten authenticity confirmation from Jiří Mucha. The work is associated with the allegorical theme of friendship between France and America and originates from the artist's most celebrated creative period. Such original studies appear on the market far less frequently than printed posters and reproductions. Created in blue pencil on paper, the composition depicts two elegant female figures rendered with the flowing lines, decorative hairstyles and refined drapery characteristic of Mucha's artistic language. Female beauty and symbolism were central themes throughout his career and became defining elements of Art Nouveau. The drawing provides a rare insight into the artist's creative process and development of allegorical compositions. The provenance is enhanced by a handwritten statement from Jiří Mucha dated 1990 confirming: “This is an original drawing by my father Alphonse Mucha.” Such authentication significantly increases the historical and collector value of the work.
