TIP OF THE CURATOR: Miloš Alexander Bazovský is one of the most important Slovak painters of the 20th century and original oils by the artist rarely appear on the Czech market. Although modest in size, this painting contains all the characteristic qualities of his work – a powerful rural atmosphere, expressive brushwork and remarkable colour sensitivity. The presented Village Landscape dates from the 1950s, a mature period of the artist's career. The composition depicts a rural building set within a landscape, rendered with richly textured paint and expressive modelling. Dominated by a solitary tree and red farm buildings, the painting captures the spirit of the Slovak countryside that inspired the artist throughout his life. Signed with the monogram M.A.B. and preserved in its original period frame. Provenance: private collection.
