Painting French landscape. Certificate of authenticity on the back. Damaged frame. The author's mother was Czech, his father's family came from Italy. He first learned to paint at the Academy of Fine Artists in Prague, then in Vienna and Munich. In 1878, he served in the army in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which manifested in his canvases with melancholy and depressive themes. In the spring of 1879, he went to Paris, where he was inspired by the teachings of the Barbizons and also began to paint in the open landscape. In Paris, Chittussi got rid of the genre themes that had previously been the basis and main content of his pictorial compositions. He successfully participated in the Salon and took part in the artistic life of Paris. He set up his own studio here and enthusiastically visited various museums and exhibitions, which he also sent his paintings. He painted the corners of Paris, but also visited Barbizon, Fontainebleau, Normandy and Brittany. Unfortunately, he does not receive the same recognition in the Czech Republic as in France, which was the source of his constant depression and self-deprecation. After returning from France, he settled in the village of Člunka near Jindřichův Hradec, later lived in Třeboň. He worked in Central Bohemia, by the Elbe in Pardubice, in the Chrudimka valley or by the South Bohemian ponds near Jindřichův Hradec. His paintings of fields, meadows and pastures were full of light and bright colors and expressed moods in the landscape. Chittussi actually brought the beginnings of a new perspective on landscape design and impressionism in general to Czech landscape design. Chittussi had a very close relationship with the painter Zdeňka Braunerová. He suffered from bronchial catarrh all his life, which was aggravated by his frequent trips to the countryside for inspiration. Towards the end of his life, Chittussi lived an almost hermit life - he did not associate with anyone and was drowning in depression because no one understood his art. He even threw his own farewell party a few weeks before his death.
