The composition presented here is an adaptation of a work by Jacopo Bassano, a New Testament story from the Gospel of Luke. The risen Christ meets with his disciples, who at first do not recognize him and mourn his death. Later that evening, when he was invited to the table, “he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them.” At that moment, the disciples recognized him; Jesus vanished from their sight, and they set out to tell others about his appearance and resurrection.
