Diana has momentarily set aside her hunting weapons, as evidenced by the quiver and a lance leaning against a nearby tree trunk. One of her brown dogs affectionately places its paw on Diana's thighs as she attends to adjust its collar. Nearby, two additional collars lay on the ground. On the left edge of the painting, deceased game lies upon the forest floor, with hunted birds strewn about, leading towards the centre of the scene.
