About
In a sparse forest landscape, Diana, the goddess of the hunt, is depicted seated on the right side of the composition. She is surrounded by her loyal hunting dogs, all of whom direct their attention towards her. Diana has momentarily set aside her hunting weapons, as evidenced by the quiver and a lance leaning against a nearby tree trunk. One of her brown dogs affectionately places its paw on Diana's thighs as she attends to adjust its collar. Nearby, two additional collars lay on the ground. On the left edge of the painting, deceased game lies upon the forest floor, with hunted birds strewn about, leading towards the centre of the scene.
