Sitting on Mary's lap, Jesus turns with open arms and a smile towards John, who leans forward from the left to embrace him and kiss him on the cheek. Mary gazes lovingly down at the two children. On the left, leaning on his staff, the aged St Joseph watches the scene with his head bowed. From behind, St Catherine adores the infant Jesus with folded hands. The composition of the figures and the facial types are similar to the works of the artists Michele Tosini and his pupils Francesco del Brina and his brother Giovanni del Brina, who worked in Florence.
