Glenburgie (also known as Glenburghie) is a Scottish distillery located in the Speyside region, founded in 1829. It was originally known as Kilnflat but was renamed Glenburgie in 1870. This distillery has undergone several major renovations over the years, with the most recent modernization taking place in 2004, when it was completely rebuilt. Glenburgie's distillate is known for its malty and slightly fruity profile, which makes it ideal for blending, particularly in Ballantine's blended whisky. Although Glenburgie is a key producer of whisky for blended brands, its single malt version has also been officially bottled as a 15-year-old whisky, which is popular for its balance between sweetness and fruity notes. Otherwise, this whisky only appears through independent bottling houses. Glenburgie is now part of Pernod Ricard's portfolio.
Glenburgie 1989 is a single malt whisky, bottled by independent bottler Murray McDavid as part of the Mission Gold Series. The whiskey was distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2007 after 18 years of aging. It was first aged in bourbon barrels and then in Rivesaltes dessert wine barrels, which gives it a unique taste profile.
Nose: Enriched with fruity notes, vanilla and fine spices.
Taste: Full, with notes of ripe fruit, caramel and with a light hint of spice.
Finish: Long and warm, with lingering fruity and woody notes.
The auctioned bottle is numbered 350/962 and comes in a gold tin tube, which underlines the exceptionality of this bottling.
