Tamdhu is a Scottish distillery located in the Speyside region, founded in 1897 by a group of blenders led by William Grant, who played a key role in the development of the whiskey industry in the area. The distillery was designed by the renowned Scottish architect Charles Doig, known for inventing the distinctive pagoda roofs of distilleries. The founders aimed to produce a whiskey that would serve as an ideal ingredient for blended whiskies. In 1899, the distillery was fully acquired by Highland Distillers (now part of Edrington), integrating it into their portfolio. After experiencing tough times and closing in 1927, Tamdhu reopened twenty years later. It was one of the last distilleries to retain the original malting method using Saladin boxes, ensuring its self-sufficiency in malt production. The malt from Tamdhu was not only used for its own whisky but also supplied to other distilleries, such as Glenrothes and Highland Park. Today, Tamdhu exclusively bottles its whisky in sherry casks, imparting a rich, fruity character that is highly sought after by enthusiasts.s its whiskey a rich and fruity taste with notes of nuts and spices. In 2010 the distillery surprisingly closed, but two years later it was bought by Ian MacLeod Distillers and the distillery underwent an extensive renovation, when new warehouses were built. A 10-year-old whiskey matured exclusively in sherry casks was subsequently launched, and later older versions were also launched.
