Deanston is a Scottish distillery in the Highlands, established in 1966 by converting a former cotton mill built by Richard Arkwright in 1785 on the banks of the River Teith. This distillery was one of the largest of its kind and reportedly had the largest water wheel in Europe.
Conversion to a distillery began in 1964 and the first distillation took place in 1969. The whiskey first appeared as a single malt under the name Bannockburn in 1971, but from 1974 it already bore the name Deanston. Due to economic problems, the distillery closed in 1982 and reopened in 1991. Deanston is known for its return to a waxy style of still.
Deanston is considered one of the greenest distilleries in Scotland. All power is generated using a water turbine that processes 20 million liters of water per hour, with excess power sold to the grid.
Deanston Aged 12 Years is a single malt whisky that has been aged for a minimum of 12 years in bourbon casks. The distillery values the authenticity of its whisky and therefore has not chill-filtered or added coloring. This whisky is ideal for lovers of smooth and slightly fruity single malts.
