Glenmorangie is a Scottish distillery in the Highlands, near the Dornoch Firth. The name comes from a Gaelic expression meaning "valley of calm". It was originally a brewery for the town of Tain until William Matheson converted it to a distillery in 1843. Records show that as early as the late 19th century it was sold in luxury hotels such as The Savoy, a testament to its quality at the time.
In 1959, after a brief hiatus, it returned as a single malt whiskey and quickly became the best seller in Scotland. Glenmorangie is famous for its tall 'giraffe' stills which produce a fine, fruity and sweet spirit. Thanks to the innovations of Dr. Today, Billa Lumsden is also known for its experimental limited editions, using different varieties of barley and types of whiskey barrels.
Since 2004, the distillery has been owned by the French company Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH).
Glenmorangie Aged 15 Years Sauternes Wood Finish is a single malt whisky, distilled by the Glenmorangie distillery and bottled in 2004. After initial maturation, this whisky was finished in Sauternes wine casks, which impart a unique sweetness and complex fruity character.
Nose: Rich and sweet, with notes of ripe tropical fruit, honey, and a subtle hint of oak spice.
Taste: Smooth and creamy, with flavors of dried apricot, pear, and a touch of vanilla. The sweetness of the Sauternes casks is balanced by a light hint of citrus and spice.
Finish: Long and smooth, with lingering notes of honey, fruit, and a light spicy undertone that leaves a warm sensation on the palate.
This limited edition is cherished for its unmistakable profile and the unique combination of sweetness and depth imparted by the Sauternes casks.
