About
Country: Central Europe | Date: 12th century
A medieval sword dating from the 12th century, probably intended for fighting in feudal wars or crusades. The sword has a typical medieval construction with a long, double-edged blade, a straight crossbar and a disc-shaped pommel.
The blade shows signs of significant corrosion and has undergone a chemical chipping process. Simple cross engravings can be seen on its surface, which could have served as a manufacturer's marking or a symbolic element associated with the warrior's faith. The crossbar is narrow and straight, with a slight flare at the ends, which was common in early Gothic swords. The head is massive, circular in shape, attached by chalking.
The overall condition corresponds to an archaeological find, while the metal structure bears signs of long-term environmental degradation. This sword represents a valuable artefact of early medieval armory and shows the development of fighting techniques in Europe during the 12th century.
