Ze série Portréty Gulagu

Výšivka hrála zvláštní roli v životě žen v gulagu a v sovětských věznicích: jednak je svědectvím o tvrdé práci vězňů, jednak je spojovala s příbuznými, zejména s jejich opuštěnými dětmi. Série je výsledkem studie dostupných dokumentů, každý portrét má své jméno a historii, takže nenecháváme žádný prostor pro anonymitu a nejasnosti. Paměť je klíčem k tomu, aby se podobný teror neopakoval, umění může poskytnout veřejnosti vizuální obrazy historických dokumentů, jako je například seznam obětí. Anna Brilliantova byla zastřelena v Sandarmochu.

GULAG Portraits series

Embroidery played a special role in the lives of women in GULAG and Soviet prisons: on the one hand, it is a testimony to the hard work of the prisoners, and on the other hand it used to connect them with their relatives, especially with their children left behind. The series is based on research of the accessible documents and each portrait has its name and history, leaving no room for anonymity or obscurity. Memory is the key to preventing the reoccurrence of such terror, and art can provide the society with the visualisation of historical documents, such as a victims’ list. Anna Brilliantova was shot in Sandarmokh.
