Popis

Veronika Holcová has been a presence on the Czech and international scene for many years. From 1993 to 1999 she passed through the studios of Jitka Svobodová, Bedřich Dlouhý, Vladimír Skrepl and Vladimír Kokolia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. After her studies she completed several residencies: in 2000 at the Egon Schiele Centre in Český Krumlov, two years later at Schwellenmatteli in Bern and in 2017 at the BUDAPEST ART FACTORY in Budapest. In the Czech Republic her works are held in the public collections of the National Gallery Prague and GAVU in Cheb, and they can also be found in many private and public collections in Canada, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, China and the USA. Her solo shows include exhibitions at Trafo Gallery in Prague and White & Weiss Gallery in Bratislava, and in recent years at the Emil Filla Gallery in Ústí nad Labem, the Regional Gallery in Cheb, the Národní galerie Nová Perla in Kyjov and Cutts Gallery in Toronto. She is currently exhibiting with Anna Zemánková at Galerie Albrecht in Berlin.

Veronika Holcová is an artist of exceptional imagination. She balances on the edge of reality and dream, moves through imaginative landscapes and drifts between memories, experiences and visions of what is to come. Through her paintings viewers sink into the artist's inner world, but they also discover and piece together fragments of their own inner child. Veronika's scenes will let us go no further than we ourselves are willing to go in interpreting them. Her suggestive, dissolving, deep landscapes are often mirrored in fragments, duplicating themselves and letting us enter twice into worlds that are almost identical and yet very different. Looking closely at her images leads us towards our own intuition and imagination, breaks down entrenched habits of seeing and lends strength to our inner freedom.

In terms of media, Veronika concentrates above all on painting and drawing. The body of drawings she has been making from 1997 to this day is very extensive and reflects the development of both her work and her personality exceptionally well. The drawings move on the edge between depiction and abstraction and are therefore very good at guiding viewers towards opening up interpretative layers of their own. Her often large-format paintings, by contrast, fill the space of the canvas and carry on beyond the frame; rather than inviting the viewer to uncover small details, they urge them to step into an endless landscape.
