About
This large-format work by Innsbruck-born artist Peter Waldner is a stylized and decorative interpretation of a winter sports scene, transforming the traditional alpine landscape into a striking, rhythmic composition.
The painting is organized in two distinct registers. The upper section features a panoramic view of snow-capped mountains under a vibrant, solid blue sky, providing a crisp, minimalist backdrop. The lower portion depicts an immense, textured, pale-blue ski slope populated by a meticulously arranged, grid-like pattern of skiers
Each skier is captured in a synchronized motion, wearing identical dark trousers paired with distinct, brightly colored sweaters (pinks, yellows, purples, and cyans). The use of elongated, consistent shadows cast by each figure adds a sense of bright, directional light, reinforcing the geometric and almost choreographic nature of the work.
Waldner’s composition bridges the gap between traditional alpine landscape painting and contemporary, graphic design. The result is a vibrant, rhythmic visual narrative that captures the collective energy of winter sports through a refined and sophisticated design lens. Oil on canvas , 100 x 70 cm
