Jakub Janovský absolvoval v letech 2004 – 2010 pražskou Akademii výtvarných umění (ateliér Kresby prof. Jitky Svobodové).

V roce 2007 byly jeho práce zařazeny do sborníku GA2LERIE. V roce 2009 a 2011 se stal finalistou Ceny 333 NG a v roce 2010 finalistou Ceny Kritiky. V roce 2016 autorovi vydala pražská Galerie Trafačka autorský katalog ke stejnojmenné výstavě Silicon Family. V roce 2020 byl zařazen do knihy SPECTRUM (vydal BiggBoss) věnované současné mladé malbě v ČR.

V poslední době jsme se mohli setkat s díly autora při mnoha příležitostech, např. na kolektivních výstavních projektech Disruptive Imagination / Narušení imaginace (2017, Ferenczy Múzeumi Centrum – MűvészetMalom, Budapešť), Tangenty (2018, Dům umění města Brna), Ostrale – Biennale of Contemporary Art (2019, Drážďany), Dämonkratie (2019, EMMA Kreativzentrum, Pforzheim), Sen ve snu, Edgar Allan Poe a umění v českých zemích (2020, NG, Praha).

V roce 2022 uvedl výstavu Betonová zahrada – ironizující i melancholická reflexi dětství a dospívání ve specifickém prostředí panelového sídliště, jež má vliv na formování dětského světa v různých vrstvách jeho projevů.

Jakub Janovský is among the artists who have long been building a strong position on the Czech art scene. From 2004 to 2010 he studied in the Drawing Studio led by Jitka Svobodová at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. After graduating he took part in a residency at the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus in Germany, as well as in many art symposia in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and France. In 2011 his work earned him second place in the NG 333 Award presented by the National Gallery Prague, and in 2024 he received the Art Grand Slam Award for the best art-and-sport project of 2023. Within public collections his works are represented in the National Gallery Prague and the Prague City Gallery, as well as in the Galerie Klatovy/Klenová and the Oblastní galerie Vysočiny in Jihlava. His name can also be found in the private collections of many Czech and international collectors. Among current and recent exhibitions, let us mention solo shows at the Galerie Václava Špály, Trafo Gallery and DSC Gallery in Prague, and, among group exhibitions, projects at the EMMA Kreativzentrum Pforzheim in Germany, in the European Parliament building in Belgium and at the Ferenczy Múzeumi Centrum in Hungary.

Formally, Jakub moves across the media spectrum, switching between different formats and techniques. "I don't want to limit myself to painting alone; I enjoy different forms. That variety is inspiring, and together it all makes an intriguing puzzle," he explains.

Jakub Janovský's works reveal not only his relationship to his own personal history but also broader questions of how the individual functions in a rapidly changing society. Although the ever-present hints of children's games refer in principle to lightness and playfulness, they carry within them something dark and cruel. Faces forever hidden or turned away, empty chairs, an abandoned spinning carousel or blind man's buff played with a cardboard box over the head. Janovský's paintings conceal a poetics of loneliness that we all sometimes experience even in the most crowded surroundings.
