About

CURATOR'S TIP: An authentic landscape painting by a respected member of the Hollar Association depicting one of the most iconic landmarks of the Bohemian Paradise region. The dated execution from 1944 and the clearly identified location enhance both its documentary and collector appeal. An attractive entry-level estimate makes this work particularly appealing to collectors of Czech landscape art. Zebín Hill Viewed from Robousy is executed in oil on cardboard and dated 1944. Measuring 16.5 × 27 cm, the painting depicts the distinctive hill of Zebín, one of the best-known landmarks of the Jičín region and the Bohemian Paradise. Viewed from the village of Robousy, the composition opens onto a tranquil landscape of fields, trees and rural architecture. Pavel Šimon employs a restrained palette and expressive brushwork that bring vitality and atmosphere to the scene. The soft treatment of light and colour conveys a sense of calm and natural harmony. Characteristic brushstrokes create movement within the landscape while preserving its realistic appearance. The painting represents an authentic example of the artist's landscape work from the wartime period. It is signed in the lower left corner and retains its original identifying label on the reverse specifying the depicted location. Beyond its artistic qualities, the work also possesses documentary value as a record of the Bohemian Paradise landscape during the 1940s. It stands as a fine example of the oeuvre of an artist admired for his refined technique and deep connection to the Czech landscape tradition. PROVENANCE: The painting originates from an inherited extensive Prague private collection from which a significant group of high-quality Czech and international artworks is being offered in this auction. The collection was assembled over several decades and included works by important artists of different generations. This provenance provides valuable collector context and further enhances the appeal of the offered work.
