CURATOR'S TIP: An exceptional cabinet-sized work by Václav Špála from 1931, offering a rare opportunity to acquire an original painting by one of the most important figures of Czech modern art. Authenticated by PhDr. Zachař, bearing the artist’s signature, catalogue number 573 on the reverse and distinguished provenance from an extensive private Moravian collection. Main description: Still Life with Fruit was painted in 1931, during one of the most mature periods of Václav Špála’s artistic career. Although modest in size, the painting contains all the essential characteristics of the artist’s unmistakable style. The dominant blue background contrasts beautifully with the vivid red and green fruit motifs, creating remarkable visual depth. Dynamic brushwork brings energy and spontaneity to the composition, while strong contours unify the individual elements into a harmonious whole. The painting demonstrates Špála’s unique ability to transform an ordinary subject into a powerful artistic statement. Executed in oil on board, measuring 19 × 23 cm, the artwork bears the artist’s signature and catalogue number 573 on the reverse. The attribution has been professionally confirmed by PhDr. Zachař and an expert report accompanies the work. Originating from an important private Prague collection acquired through inheritance, the painting has been carefully preserved and remains in excellent collector’s condition.
