A highly distinctive and charming work by Josef Hlinomaz from 1967, presenting the artist’s imaginative vision of New York. Rather than depicting the metropolis realistically, Hlinomaz transforms it into his own fantastical world filled with humour, exaggeration and playful narrative details. The composition features the Statue of Liberty, a sailing boat, a zeppelin bearing the name HLINOMAZ, a small figure with the inscription “NU JORK”, and a stylised Manhattan skyline. Strong blue areas contrast with vivid red, green, yellow and orange accents, while the geometric foreground gives the scene an almost theatrical sense of perspective.
