About
Wrought-iron mask of shame from the turn of the 17th and 18th century, once used to publicly humiliate wrongdoers. The face plate with cut-out eye holes ends in a long beak-like nose and a serrated crest on the forehead, and the mask was fastened to the head with a system of metal straps with hooked ends.
