The author here reacts to his stay in Brittany (where he went in a way in the footsteps of the painter Jan Zrzavý), where he was particularly attracted by the specific shape and mood culture of sailboats, the sea and views. He capitalized on this visual lesson in the series School Ship, from which our artifact comes. Unlike other artists, however, Michal Pěchouček does not use colour and light effects in his reflection of the unique seascape, which such an environment undoubtedly invites, but focuses on almost geometric structures and compositions without colour distinction. The lines and shapes, in which we can sometimes discern the rhombuses, etc., are almost lost in the "invisible" fields of delicate reliefs that are layered and stitched together from several textile segments. However, even in Jan Zrzavý's works from a similar milieu, similar dematerialisations had already occurred from time to time, and this painter too sometimes focused more on linear, almost abstract compositions, for which the given landscape, air, sea and space gave him stimuli. Zrzavý, on the other hand, often emphasized the material nature of stone architectures, dykes, and piers, capturing their basic, summative, and dense appearance. Although Pěchouček sometimes made use of darker colours in his School Ship series, he did not attempt to define the domain and plasticity of individual forms through them.
The assemblage on offer is an example of a subtle relief design, employing diagonally intersecting lines that perhaps evoke the rigging and boom of a sailing ship, but can also give the impression of a map in which we seek the correct course and direction of travel. Pěchouček employs a distinctive technique combining the techniques of three-dimensional and two-dimensional representation through drawing, relief, sewing, and collage. Michal Pěchouček is one of the leading contemporary artists whose work integrally combines theoretical questions about art and image with compelling, diverse and sensationally affecting art. He explores particular aspects of his work in open art cycles, which are usually characterized by a certain technical aspect
of processing (e.g. horizontal composition, sewn relief, etc.). In Notre Dame, it is mainly about that geometric system of lines, embodied in a low relief, on which, however, a loose piece of fabric is already floating a bit disturbingly - is it a sail that has come down at the right moment, or is it tearing?

Michal Pěchouček je český výtvarník narozený v roce 1973 v Teplicích. Působí v Praze a jeho tvorba spojuje tradiční formy s novými a originálními prvky. Začínal jako grafik a jeho barevné linoryty prokázaly technickou brilanci a malířskou kvalitu. V roce 1996 se ale vydal na dobrodružnou cestu, která tuto techniku posunula do nových dimenzí.

Pěchouček začal pracovat s výjevy z rodinných diapozitivů z 60. a 70. let, inspirovanými jeho vlastními grafikami. Tradiční grafická technika mu však nedovolovala tak autenticky "zpřítomnit" tyto výjevy, jako když se promítají na plátno pomocí diaprojektoru. Proto začal obrazy rozkládat do několika plánů na síťové pletivo, na které následně maloval syntetickými barvami. Tím vytvářel zvláštní blízkost, životnost a prostorovost obrazu.

Později se Pěchouček začal zajímat i o fotografii. Sestavil několik barevných fotopříběhů, které fotil sám, a vytvářel tak příběhy pomocí sekvencí momentek. V roce 2001 se vrátil k malbě a převedl metodu fotopříběhů do malované formy.

V posledních letech se Pěchouček věnuje převážně videu. Jeho dílo "Sběratel" z roku 2003 je sérií 28 obrazů, které tvoří příběh na filmovém pásu. Tuto sérii doplňuje video, kde Pěchouček v roli umělce předvádí obrazy neviditelnému sběrateli, tím vytváří příběh vlastní tvorby.

Celkově lze říci, že Michal Pěchouček přináší do své tvorby novátorský pohled spojený s experimentováním s různými výtvarnými technikami a médii.
