About
From the expert opinion of PhDr. Nadězda Blažíčková-Horová: "Havránek was a pupil of the Prague Academy, Antonín Mánes and Max Haushofer - two representatives of different Romantic views on landscape painting. His own romanticism was initially tempered by a strange descriptive matter-of-factness, and he always dramatised the composed, realistically painted landscape with light and shadow. This is also seen in the submitted Path between the trees, where the sun flashes through only small gaps in the dense trees, casting shadows on the rutted path winding through the centre of the composition. The whole scene is convincing in its orderliness and calm, almost idyllic mood, in its striving for precision, factuality, and thorough fidelity. The combination of romantic content and realistic transcription is typical of Havránek's work."
