Přísaháme, že jsme Patrika Hábla objevili těsně předtím, než se stal opravdovou superstar. První dílo nám do aukce věnoval v roce 2018, tedy ještě dříve, než se o jeho tvorbu začaly zajímat světově proslulé aukční domy Sotheby’s a Christie’s. Pokud se daný umělec objeví v těchto renomovaných aukčních síních, přinese to rychlý nárůst hodnoty jeho děl. Patrik je jediným žijícím českým umělcem, jehož tvorba se objevila v obou slavných aukčních domech. Možná jste příznivé ceny tohoto autora „prošvihli“, tak ať se vám to nestane s cenami současnými. Jednoho dražitele jsme dokonce k nákupu díla v roce 2019 museli popostrčit, a dnes si mne ruce :-) Ono to začalo už v roce 2021, kdy jsme si u něj jako dar do aukce „objednali“ Turínské plátno. Věděli jsme, že to téma je mu blízké stejně jako nám, a díky svému smyslu pro humor nám neřekl ne. Nakonec z toho bylo Postní plátno (tvorba těchto pláten trvá Patrikovi mnoho let), které v naší aukci mělo skvělý výsledek. V roce 2022 jsme z jeho tvorby směli vybrat přes 5 m dlouhý obraz na kartonu s názvem Zlatočerné hory, bezpečně jsme jej umístili coby svitek v dřevěné schránce pod muzeální sklo. Ani tehdy se našeho výběru velkorysý Patrik nezalekl, a jeho úspěch v naší aukci se ještě znásobil. I letos se nám Patrika podařilo trochu potrápit a vybrali jsme dílo, které je pro Patrika prý doslova iniciační. Uschlé slunečnice vznikly při rozpoutání války na Ukrajině. Napsal nám k tomu: „Byla to beznaděj a úzkost. Před 100 lety maloval uschlé slunečnice i Egon Schiele, nějak se to po 100 letech opakuje…“ Navzdory našemu pohodlí válka, její hrozba i úzkost trvají – mějme na mysli, třeba „jen“ prostřednictvím Uschlých slunečnic, že stav světa není v pořádku.

Patrik Hábl refuses to be bound by established procedures. Sometimes he builds up layers of oil paint and then lets the canvases sleep, only to open them again several years later and turn them into a contemplative relief. At other times he lets the paint run and drip, moving close to action painting. He lays down planes of colour intuitively, prints them, washes them out and applies them again, opening himself to chance. "It is good to step out of your shell and open up more to what lies beyond you. Not to let yourself be consumed by your ego," he adds. His works reflect his current state of mind and often acquire a sacral dimension, reinforced by the dialogue with the architectural spaces in which they are shown.

For his expressive abstract landscapes he often chooses large formats. Sometimes he stretches the paintings on wooden frames, at other times he hangs them freely in the space. "Painting on a large scale is extremely demanding. It is physically hard to move above or around such a big canvas, but it is essential for me that the work sits in the right scale. Every painting needs the right scale," he explains. Patrik Hábl's paintings simply carry lightness and weight, ease and saturation, desire and surrender. Perhaps that is why they have found such favour with Czech and international collectors.

Patrik Hábl is one of the artists established both in the Czech Republic and abroad. In 2000 he completed his studies in Pavel Nešleha's studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, and during those studies he spent a year in Vladimír Kokolia's studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, a year of training in the printmaking studio of Mikoláš Axman and a year at the Mukhina Academy in St Petersburg. Patrik Hábl is a member of the Umělecká beseda and Hollar associations, his work was included in the fourth and sixth Beijing International Art Biennale, and in 2019 he received the Europol Art Awards and the Print of the Year award. He was recently included once again in Sotheby's London international top selection of works in the Contemporary Art section, something no other living Czech artist has achieved. 

His works are represented in the collections of many Czech and international institutions, above all the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, the Vatican Museums in the Vatican, the Europol HQ Collection in The Hague, the Netherlands, the Diözesanmuseum collection in Graz, the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká nad Vltavou, the North Bohemian Gallery of Fine Arts in Litoměřice, the Regional Gallery in Liberec and many others.
