About
The glass sculpture Cross Head, dating from 1987, is a work by the renowned Czech artistic duo Stanislav Libenský and Jaroslava Brychtová, who made a significant contribution to the development of modern glass art. The sculpture depicts a geometrically stylized human head with a distinctive cross-shaped division of the facial area. The composition combines rounded forms with sharply defined edges and planes, creating a striking three-dimensional structure.
The artistic impact of the work is based on the interplay of light, colour, and glass. Translucent glass in warm amber and orange hues gradually transitions into deeper red and purple tones. Variations in the thickness of the material, together with the contrast between ground and polished surfaces, create changing light effects and emphasize the geometric structure of the sculpture. The work is distinguished by its pronounced sculptural quality and the striking contrast between light passing through the glass and its more intensely coloured areas.
The sculpture is executed in cast, ground, and polished glass, measuring 38 cm in height, and dated 1987. The work is accompanied by an expert assessment issued by Mgr. Michaela Maxová. Provenance: ACB Consulting auction, 1 March 2026, sold for CZK 700,000.
