About
The painting By the Studio Window depicts an intimate view of an artist's studio, with a worktable positioned in front of a large window. Various objects associated with artistic practice are arranged across the table, including a container holding paintbrushes, a small blue cup, a green object with an irregularly structured surface, and other painting supplies. In the background, the window frame and surrounding planes create a layered representation of the interior space.
The painting is distinguished by its richly textured surface and muted palette dominated by shades of grey, blue, brown, and ochre. More pronounced green and blue tones in the foreground enliven the overall composition. The individual forms are rendered through expressive brushstrokes and layered paint, emphasising their volume and surface qualities. The interplay of vertical and horizontal lines provides a strong compositional structure, while subtle colour transitions create a calm atmosphere characteristic of the depicted studio setting.
The work dates from 1968 and is executed in oil on canvas, measuring 84 × 105 cm. The painting is signed and dated in the lower left corner and is framed.
