About
The bronze sculpture Dance of Time, dated circa 1960, represents one of the most recognizable motifs in Salvador Dalí’s surrealist iconography – the melting clocks, which first appeared in his famous painting The Persistence of Memory (1931). This motif, associated with the artist’s fascination with the relativity of time and its subjective perception, takes on a dynamic, three-dimensional form in the sculpture. The clocks appear to move as if dancing to an imaginary rhythm, challenging the traditional perception of time as a fixed and unchanging concept.
The sculpture is characterized by the dramatically distorted shape of the clocks, whose soft, flowing lines contrast with the solidity of the bronze material. The greenish patina and golden details emphasize the textured surface and enhance the surrealist character of the work. The motif of dancing clocks appears in several variations of Dalí’s sculptural work, known under the title Dance of Time.
The bronze sculpture, mounted on a marble base, stands 101 cm high and is unsigned. It comes from an important private collection in Germany. With its striking three-dimensional design and monumental scale, the work represents an impressive interpretation of one of the most iconic motifs of Dalí’s surrealist world.
Author
Spolupracoval s řadou význačných osobností, včetně Luise Buñuela, Walta Disneyho a Alfreda Hitchcocka.
