Together with his brother Raphael and nephew Aegidius, he became one of the leading representatives of Netherlandish Mannerism. Marten de Vos - Flemish painter, representative of Northern Mannerism. He probably trained under his father Peeter de Vos and the painter Frans Floris (1517-1570). He then went on a study trip to Italy, where he worked, for example, on the landscape backgrounds of paintings by Jacopo Tintoretto (1518-1594). After returning in 1558 he became a master of the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke, and in the 1570s even served as its dean. He had sons Daniel (1568-1605) and Marten (1576-1613), who also became painters. Together with Ambrosius Francken he took charge of the decorations for Antwerp's welcome of Archduke Ernest of Austria (1553-1595) in 1594. He painted altarpieces, allegories and portraits. After his death, many of his drawings served as models for copper engravings.
