One of the later editions of a popular collection of portraits and biographies of important scholars, humanists and men of letters of the 16th and 17th centuries. Originally published in several volumes (parts) from the 1640s onward. On the title page two blind-stamped book stamps and an ownership inscription "Leopoldi Scherschnik 1802.", further notes on the front pastedown and flyleaf, e.g. "Pro captu lectoris habent sua fata Libelli Manitius" or "emit me 15. Argenteis F. W. Fuchs Vratisl: 26. Febr. 1716". Binding slightly damaged and somewhat loose, text block in good condition.
