Zdeňka Burgetová (1934–2017) was a Czech painter, graphic artist and draughtswoman who studied at the Faculty of Education of Charles University in Prague under professors Cyril Bouda, K. Lidický and K. Endrys. In her work she devoted herself to free graphic art and drawing, most often using color lithography. Her works are characterized by love, feeling, tenderness, dreaminess and fragility, with trees, flowers and girls' portraits frequently used as dominant motifs. During her life she had more than 40 solo exhibitions at home and abroad, for example in Japan, the USA, Cuba, Germany and Austria. Along her creative and personal path she faced not only the classic stigmatization of the woman artist and mother, but also, because she openly professed Christianity, ostentatious disregard from regime-aligned aestheticians and critics. However, her works in oil and mixed media from the late 1950s and 1960s reveal a strong artistic personality commenting on current and recently past movements and artistic trends, which she nevertheless processed in her own typically feminine and sensitive language. This ultimately, in contrast to the atmosphere of the era and the challenges of life, matured into a conciliatory, tender and poetic plane, in which the flower and girlish grace were the fundamental symbols of her artistic expression.
