Four further photographs from the 1930s, later enlargements by the artist, dimensions ranging from 17.5x20 to 23.4x17.9 cm. The original enlargement has small creases and frayed upper corners. The later enlargements are in a slightly better-preserved condition. Tibor Honty - a self-taught Czechoslovak photographer, initially a sculptor and ceramicist. After graduating from the Bratislava grammar school (1927), he studied ceramics at the School of Applied Arts between 1930 and 1933. He subsequently exhibited his ceramic works in Prague and Paris. He settled permanently in Prague, where he began working in a printing house. He took up photography from 1935. He focused on reportage and social subjects (for example the poetic cycle Lidé z maringotek [People of the Caravans]) as well as on images of sculpture. After the Second World War he became a member of the Mánes Union of Fine Arts, and in 1948 he collaborated on the establishment of its photographic section. Most exhibitions of his work took place only after his death, e.g. a retrospective for his unlived 65th birthday at the exhibition hall of the Czechoslovak Writer in Prague and the House of Art of the City of Brno, 1972; a retrospective exhibition in Bratislava, Budapest and Košice, 1973; Tibor Honty, French Sculpture in Photography, at the Royal Summer Palace in Prague and in Olomouc, 1973, and others.
