He devoted himself primarily to advertising and portrait work, nudes and landscape. He studied architecture at the Czech Technical University and then worked from 1961 as a designer. From 1966 he was active as an independent photographer. In 1976 he was a co-founder of the group Setkání. A member of the Union of Czechoslovak Visual Artists (SČSVU) and the Czech Federation of Art Photography (ČFVU). Over the course of his life he organized 35 exhibitions, including several abroad (1967 the Netherlands, 1971 Austria, 1973 Tokyo). He chose the woman as his main theme, both in the form of the nude and of the portrait; he also devoted himself to advertising and fashion photography. He rejected artificial lighting and special equipment, photographing in the open countryside and trying to express the harmony of man with nature. He was among the leading representatives of the so-called new wave in Czech photography of the 1960s and early 1970s.
