Christoph Müller S.C.M. Capitane“. In the upper left corner, a title cartouche with a regional coat of arms and allegorical figural decoration. In the upper right corner, an ornamental cartouche with a legend. In the lower left corner, an ornamental cartouche with a scale. At the end of May 1708, the Vienna Bohemian Court Office ordered the Moravian Royal Tribunal to draw up a new map of Moravia. That this was a more or less formal commission is evidenced by the award of the contract as early as 11 June. Johann Christoph Müller was commissioned to work on the new cartographic work, and immediately afterwards he began surveying the Znojmo region. In 1712, his detailed sketches were sent to the regional governors for revision and only after their comments had been completed was the final draft of the commission prepared for the production of the printing plate. Two years later, the Brno engraver Johann Christoph Leidig was commissioned to produce four copper plates. The map, which represented a major qualitative breakthrough in the cartographic representation of the Moravian territory, was reprinted many times in the following years and other maps were derived from it.
