About

The work of the glass artist, designer and glass painter František Jungvirt is represented today in numerous public collections, among them the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, the Moravian Gallery in Brno and the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou, as well as in private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad. In the past year alone his work has appeared at Design Week in Dubai, in the Netherlands, in Slovenia and in Milan, and in exhibitions at the Clam-Gallas Palace, the Maison&Objet gallery in Paris, the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi and the Go Green Art Gallery in Zurich. Besides the Czech Grand Design awards in 2021 and 2022, he has also won the BIG SEE Product Design Award 2024, the Ludwig Moser Award 2018 and Master of Crystal 2018. In 2024 he was named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

František Jungvirt studied glass painting at the secondary vocational school in Třeboň and is a graduate of the glass studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, led by the sculptor Rony Plesl. In his work he most often draws on the traditions of Czech glassmaking, giving them a new expression through the exaggeration and gentle humour that are all his own. Through an authentic visual language and experimental yet precise techniques, he seeks to push the technical and aesthetic limits of the field. Among the hallmarks of Jungvirt's work is not only its play with form, but also with colour and with hand-painted motifs. Alongside the design of functional objects, he makes art objects, installations and limited series in glass. He currently works under his own eponymous label františek jungvirt and is actively involved in the international platforms Michelangelo Foundation, Northlands Creatives and Erria Creatives.
