Kateřina Šťastná is a young artist currently completing her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the Sculpture I studio. In previous years she completed a study internship in Milan, which became a fundamental inspiration for her, not only in the choice and treatment of materials.
The artist's long-term theme is corporeality in relation to breathing. She is interested in the relationship that arises at the moment of inhalation between our body and the space that surrounds it. The mutual action of breath on the body and of the body on the shape of the breath. For just as every inhalation partly deforms the shape of the human body, so the specific shape of our physical frame defines the momentary form of the breath's mass. She records her own idea of what shape breath might take at the moment of this mutual influence with the physical body in quick sketches, which she then transfers, through deliberately slow processes, into more considered series and larger wholes. The depicted scenes thus capture a momentary feeling in the body, evoked by a particular place or by a situation exceptional in some way.
Among her achievements so far we can mention, for example, a bronze sculpture in public space for the Telegrafia company in Košice, an exhibition at Prague's Curator Contemporary Gallery and the group exhibition Pomezí identity at Galerie Stará radnice Vsetín.
